  1. Stanley Newcomb Kenton (December 15, – August 25, ) was an American popular music and jazz artist. As a pianist, composer, arranger and band leader, he led an innovative and influential jazz orchestra for almost four decades. Though Kenton had several pop hits from the early s into the s, his music was always forward-looking. Kenton was also a pioneer in the field of jazz.
  2. Kenton was known to feature a number of vocal groups in his recordings including The Pastels and the Indianapolis-based group the Four Freshmen. The female singers weren’t the only ones.
  3. Origins Stan Kenton was born in Wichita, Kansas, and raised first in Colorado and then in California. He learned piano as a child, and while still a teenager toured with various bands. In June he formed his own band, which developed into one of the best-known West Coast ensembles of the Forties.

  6. The quality of the recording is good. This is a great selection. Note these are not recordings of Stan Kenton himself but it is wonderful representation of his work. My Dad and I, jazz enthusiasts, enjoyed these very much. I especially enjoyed the Peanut Vendor which I 5/5(3).
